Foodie entertainment is making its way to the big screen.  If you’re a fan of Food Network, The Travel Channel, and other outlets for food TV, Hollywood producers are betting they can get you to the move from your kitchen to the theater.

My thesis? Julie & Julia.  This film is a true story based on the autobiography of Julia Child (the famous cook book author and food television pioneer ) and Julie Powell, the blogger known for making her way through Julia’s cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, in a year.

(I know this is a foodie website so excuse the film commentary but…) The film brings together Meryl Streep and Amy Adams who shared the screen in last years nun-studded drama Doubt.  OMG I couldn’t stand that movie!  Well acted,  I will agree, but it was a painful 104 minutes to endure.

From the previews, though, it looks like Streep and Adams won’t share any “real” screen time in Julie & Julia.  Thank Goodness!  Not to mention, the subject matter is much more interesting.

Julie & Julia opens in North America on August 7, 2009.
