Wow! Only 14 more days until Christmas, kiddies. That means you don’t have much time left to figure out how to get scarce when the relatives come to visit.
Consider these events taking place around the South Bay to get you out of the house this weekend. Besides they’re way more fun than heading to Wal-Mart to return something (easily a two-hour trip) or trying to find a parking place at Manhattan Village.
Oh, and dress warmly; snow is in the forecast!
Thursday, December 9
North Manhattan Beach Open House and Walk About, 5 – 9 PM
Shops and Restaurants welcome you to the Manhattan Beach’s North side to share some holiday cheer. Businesses on Highland Ave from 32nd to 38th Street will be open for holiday shopping with sales and samples. Music, refreshments, and door prizes will vary from shop to shop so make sure you visit them all.
Bring the kids and go to Verandas (401 Rosecrans Avenue) so that can tell Santa what they want for Christmas…and prompt you to make another run to Target.
Saturday, December 11
Hermosa Beach Snow Fest, 3 – 8 PM
Leave it to the folks at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort to dump 30 tons of snow on Pier Avenue! This Saturday you can enjoy a margarita at Sharkeez and catch some showy snow board stunts at the same time. Afterward, toast the Christmas Holiday when they plug in the lights for the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 PM.
Don’t hit the egg nog too hard though, public sledding starts at 6:30 PM!
Santa on the Redondo Beach Pier, 4:30 – 7 PM
Visit Kris Kringle on the Redondo Beach pier this Saturday from 4:30-7 PM along with carolers singing holiday tunes. Bring an unwrapped toy to this free event to support Cheer for Children, a charity benefiting terminally ill children.
17th Annual Christmas Boat Parade, 5 PM
Santa is moving as fast as his little legs will carry him! After checking his list of naughty and nice kids on the Pier, he’ll be kicking off the 17th Annual Christmas boat Parade in the Marina.
Beginning at 5 PM, take a break in one of the restaurants along the Marina (Samba Brazilian, for example) and watch the flotilla of brightly decorated boats sail by. Check the Redondo Beach Marina website for more info.
Sunday, December 12
14th Annual King Harbor Yacht Club Christmas Boat Parade, 5:30 – 7 PM
NOt to be outdone, ehe King Harbor Yacht Club is lights up the Marina all over again with their boat parade on Sunday. This year’s theme is “A Polynesian Holiday”.
Check out the KHYC website for the parade route and more details. Here’s a video from last year’s event!
Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks Festival, 4 – 7 PM
There’s a 100% chance of snow this weekend in Manhattan Beach at The Skechers Snow Park on the Manhattan Beach Pier. Wear your winter gear and come ready to build snow men and fling snow balls at unsuspecting kids!
The annual celebration on the Pier culminates in a Fireworks Festival that can be seen up and down the coast. Of course, the best seats are on the beach right there in MB! Traffic and parking are like nightmares before Christmas though so make sure to grab your blankets and beach chairs and get their early.
