One of the greatest battleships in history, the USS Iowa, has come to San Pedro. Tonight the streets of LA’s harbor town will be the setting for a grand welcoming of this new addition to our waterfront.
This event will feature live music from a swing band, food and beverages from local vendors, and the installation of Tivoli lights in downtown San Pedro.
Here are the details from the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce:
San Pedro Historic Waterfront Business Improvement District (PBID) is pleased to announce a Friday night festive street party celebrating the installation of permanent Tivoli lights in downtown San Pedro and the USS Iowa’s arrival to San Pedro. Melding history with charm, “San Pedro’s Swingin’ Salute” will offer live swing music, vintage dress and food from area restaurants in the heart of downtown San Pedro.
The event will be held from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Sixth Street, which will be closed and become a “Restaurant Row” between Centre Street and Pacific Avenue. Admission is free. A 7-piece swing band, free swing lessons, and a 1940s searchlight beaming its rays outside the Warner Grand Theatre are just some of the highlights of the evening. San Pedro will be taken back to its heyday!
Tables and chairs will be set up on the street and local restaurants will make popular menu items as well as beer and wine available for purchase. Participating restaurants include: San Pedro Brewing Co, the Whale Ale, Blu at Crowne Plaza LA Harbor Hotel, Limani Taverna, Beach City Grill, 7th St. Chophouse, Baramee Thai, Happy Diner, Niko’s Pizzeria, Off the Vine, Mishi’s Strudel Bakery and Cafe, Porky’s BBQ, Sacred Grounds and Taxco Restaurant.
