Prime rib lovers that want an exceptional dinner experience – offered at a great price – owe it to themselves to stop by Fleming’s on any given Sunday in August through September 2nd. During that time, all Fleming’s locations are offering a Sunday Prime Rib Dinner, specially priced at $29.95 per person.
The extras included along with the prime rib are what make this a great deal. A salad, a side dish, and a full-sized dessert come with the 12 ounce cut of prime rib.
The South Bay Foodies stopped by Fleming’s in El Segundo to get the scoop on this deal*. Here’s our report!
Starters and Salads
With “prime steakhouse” in the name, Fleming’s in known for cooking beef to perfection. However, their appetizers and salads are crafted well enough to stand on their own.
The meal begins with a choice from three salads:
- The Wedge – a huge chunk of iceberg lettuce served with tomatoes, red onions and crumbled blue cheese
- Fleming’s Salad – mixed greens, tomatoes, onions and croutons sweetened up a bit with candied walnuts and dried cranberries
- And the Classic Caesar – hearts of romaine, parmesan, and croutons baked with whole-grain mustard
I’m a sucker for candied walnuts and cranberries in my salad so I opted for the Fleming’s Salad. All of the ingredients matched perfectly, unmasked by the light dressing.
I also started the meal with the wicked cajun barbecue shrimp appetizer, a bowl of thick prawns bathed in a garlicy, spicy sauce. I’ve raved about this dish as a great option for happy hour so I wasn’t surprised that I ordered it for dinner as well. The appetizer isn’t included in the prime rib special…I just like it so much that it’s hard to go into Fleming’s without getting at least one order in!
The Main Course and Side Dishes
The next step in this lovely meal was the focus of the evening: the prime rib. Cut just shy of a pound, I ordered my 12 ounce serving medium well.
Three sauces are served with the meat: a savory au jus, a creamy horseradish, and a tangy Dijon. I love the sinus clearing effects of horseradish so I gravitated to that sauce right away. The sauce was milder than I expected though, but no less pleasing in the way it complemented the prime rib.
The prime rib dinner special includes a side dish as well, selected from the complete list of sides on the full menu. I opted for the garlic mashed potatoes while my dinner partner, one of the Junior South Bay Foodies, went for the namesake Fleming’s potatoes that go over the top with jalapeños and plenty of cheddar cheese.
The side dishes served with the special are the regular size so there’s plenty to go around if you’re sharing with someone. Sharing is encouraged because after wrapping up the entrée, there’s still one more course to go!
Dessert Takes the Cake
It was tough, but I managed to save some room for dessert. The prime rib special includes a full sized dessert selected from the normal dessert menu.
The chocolate lava cake was an easy choice for me. There are seven dessert choice on the menu but the others – carrot ckae, cheesecake, and walnut turtle pie to name a few – were a match for chocolate cake with Belgian chocolate inside paired with vanilla ice cream and chopped pistachios.
Award Winning Wine and Hand Crafted Cocktails
A meal like this isn’t complete without a beverage to wash everything down. Fleming’s has that covered too. Just note that Drinks are not included in the prime rib special.
If you’re into a perfectly paired wine, you’re sure to find something among the 100 wines offered by the glass. Or if you’re into other liquors, you can choose from a few drink menus that include modern martinis, Retro Chic cocktails, and more.
I was drawn to the Whiskey Rebellion, a stunning blend of Gentleman Jack, fresh lime juice, muddled mango and mint, served on the rocks.
