If someone asks you to join them for Ménage à Trois Monday, give them the benefit of the doubt. They’re probably talking about the new happy hour specials at Dominique’s Kitchen in Redondo Beach.
Dominique’s Kitchen serves French food that’s been tenderly prepared by the restaurant’s namesake, Chef Dominique. South Bay Foodies’ own Bryan T. recently met with the chef and his staff for a whirlwind tour of the restaurant’s Franco-European menu. You can find all the details of that review by following this link.
Dinner service at Dominique’s starts at 4 PM on all nights of the week except Tuesday when the entire shop is closed. That means Monday is kind of like the weekend, which means the evening should start with a happy hour!
As a special treat to guests, Dominique’s is offering a specially priced happy hour on Mondays from 4 to 6 PM. With an emphasis on small plates and sharable dishes, everything on the menu – including imported beers, select wines, and sangria – is priced at $3.
Bryan and I stopped by to thoroughly vet this menu*. Here’s a ménage a trois of the highlights!
- Sangria. I like the fact that their sangria is made ahead of time and stored in a big, refrigerated vat behind the bar. That means all the fruit essence has been drawn into the wine and the spices have had time to steep to perfection. The result is a wonderful glass of sangria, bursting with flavors of citrus and cinnamon.
- Fried kale. Yes, you can have veggies during happy hour, even a super food like kale! So much better when its fried, though. This dish is a small batch of kale, flash fried to a crisp and topped with parmesan cheese. Its crunchy, slightly salty, and the perfect partner to a glass fo wine or beer.
- House made Chicken Liver Pate. This is the happy hour pièce de résistance! A small, but substantial pot of creamy chicken liver pate is served with toasted bread, baby pickles, and tender black olives. At just $3, this item is worth the visit all by itself.
I know I said just a few highlights but other items worth mentioning (and pictured below) include the imported cheese and dried fruit plate and the panna cotta. Yes, panna cotta on the happy hour menu for just $3.
In case you’re wondering, yes, escargot is also on the happy hour menu. If you’re curious you can get a sample at this low price without committing to an entire entrée.
Their regular menu is also available at opening time on Mondays but I would suggest two visits. The first, to try the happy hour on Monday; and another to explore the dinner menu.
Au revoir!
