Its been a little over seven years since I did a full review of The Habit Burger located in El Segundo. Thankfully, not much has changed.
The burgers, fries, shakes and salads were all present and accounted for on the menu. The one stand out was the item I had come to see: a fried chicken sandwich.
Chicken sandwiches have been on their menu since my last review in 2009, but those are grilled. The Golden Chicken Sandwich, as its officially known, is a chicken breast fillet that’s hand-dipped in buttermilk and seasoned flour (twice) and then fried. They go on to add a slightly spicy red pepper sauce, a tomato slice, and some pickles with everything stacked on a toasted bun.
The fried chicken sandwich goes for $6.25 and is available for a limited time. My hope is this is a trial run to see if there is interest before the sandwich gets added to the regular menu.
In my last review, I placed The Habit’s burgers in that space between fast food and gourmet and the chicken sandwich fits that bill as well.
Chik-fil-a fans will take a liking to the crispy-juicness of the fillet while fans of celebrity chef Ludo Lefebvre’s Ludo Bird will appreciate the price point.
Those that don’t care anything about a yard bird on a bun will be happy to know that the burger menu is pretty much how we left it last time. If your appetite is a big one, opt for the Santa Barbara style double char. You’ll be pleased with the addition of cheese and avacado stacked with two beef patties on grilled sourdough bread.
There are three Habit Burger Grill locations in the South Bay and others around Los Angeles. I’m not sure when the clock runs out on the chicken sandwich so check out your nearest location soon. If you miss out on the chicken, the consolation prize (a big burger and fries) will be worth the trip.
