If you enjoy eating meat, you probably look forward to eating a delicious juicy steak. I recently learned about the Angus Rib Eye offering at Jackson’s Food and Drink and had to try it.
The Dog Days of Summer are fortunately behind us and I’m glad that the days have finally cooled down. I walked into Jackson’s and it was actually a bit chilly in their covered patio. Fortunately, they fired up their space heaters and all was well.
If you don’t know about Jackson’s Food and Drink, chef/owner Scott Cooper is hands on and extremely passionate about the quality of his food. His steaks are sourced from Allen Brothers of Chicago. Allen Brothers is a 120 year old family business that supplies many of the Chicago area chop houses.
Their current special is the AB Angus Rib Eye Steak with a shallot au jus, roasted brussel sprouts and crispy potato skins and I wasn’t mentally prepared for what I was about to receive.
The generously sized steak was tender and juicy with a smoky and peppery taste. What made the taste exceptional was the shallot au jus that Cooper prepared. His au jus was based on a veal stock simmered with mirepoix and pureed with caramelized shallots.
The crispy potato skins were seasoned with salt and parmesan cheese and I found this to be addictive. The roasted brussel sprouts were tender and sweet.
If you love a good steak, I highly recommend you try this.
