Block Party at Plaza El Segundo

One of the best ways to celebrate summer is with food, music, and a few hundred of your friends and neighbors.  Sounds like a block party to me!  Plaza El Segundo, the shopping center located at the corner of Sepulveda and Roscrans, recently kicked summer of with a block partythat featured plenty of the ingridents to mix up a celebration to remember.

Grilled Corn Salad

Sweet summer vegetables!  They’re such a treat to have and taste even better when they’re grilled.  We’ve been eating our fair share of grilled vegetables this summer.  Not to the point that we’re tired of them, but enough that its time to do soemthing different…even if its only a slight change.  The cook-out staple of grilled corn on the cob tastes even better with a few simple modifications from the way we normally eat it.

The Best Marathons Come With Food And Beer

Last weekend, Josh (the commander in chief over at Food GPS) brought a crack team of food bloggers to our neck of the woods for a marathon; a food marathon.  The concept?  To spend an afternoon eating and drinking at some tasty spots near the beach.

Entertainment for Food Bloggers

Foodie entertainment is making its way to the big screen.  If you’re a fan of Food Network, The Travel Channel, and other outlets for food TV, Hollywood producers are betting they can get you to the move from your kitchen to the theater.

Shrimp and Creamy Grits

Shrimp and grits is truly a satisfying meal at any time of the day!  You can’t go wrong with creamy grits topped with a succulent mixture of shrimp that’s been flavored with bacon and spices.

Paciugo Gelato – Italian Sweets in Hermosa Beach

Just one month shy of their first anniversary, Paciugo Gelato has become a go-to destination for gelato in Hermosa Beach.  With this location being the first of this chain in California, people are coming in droves for what may be the best gelato in the South Bay.  As the word gets out, their motto almost seems like a self fulfilling prophecy: “reputation before profit”.

Fried Cheese-Stuffed Zucchini Blossoms

I’ve eaten flowers before, usually as an accent or decoration on a salad or with sushi.  I’ve also seen them at markets and not known what to do with them.  A little bit of foodie edutainment, however, gave me the insight on a very easy and tasty dish featuring flowers.

Bill’s Grill: “Dining In” at Whole Foods

Imagine, walking through your grocery store and, just as you past the produce section, a quaint little patio restaurant pops out of nowhere.  It has an open kitchen with a charbroiler, a bar and tables facing a ceiling mounted flat screen TV, and a menu featuring burgers, salads, and BBQ combo plates.  That’s Bill’s Grill!

Sweet Potato Pudding

Sweet potatoes are the best.  They can be used in sweet or savory dishes; they count as a vegetable; and like their cousin the regular potato, they make great comfort foods.

Rotisserie Chicken Salad

My mom always does a great job of taking leftovers and creating something new.  I’ve seen her do it several times, turning left over chicken into chicken salad.  I figured it was about time I came up with my own recipe!

Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs

There’s nothing better than having your favorite street food at home!  With this dinner, I brought one of my favorite “meals from a cart” from the streets to the dinner table.

High End Happy Hour at Fleming’s

As mentioned in a previous post, Fleming’s has added a happy hour to their nightly offerings.  Labeled as “5 for 6 til 7”, the menu offers up 5 cocktails, 5 wines, and 5 appetizers all prized at $6 until 7 PM.  As an attempt to get folks in to spend some cash in this less than stellar economy, it works.

World Famous Peach Salad

For those of us that yearn to have just a few more peaches in the fruit salad, this is vindication;  a salad that emphasizes fruit with the focus on peaches and nectarines.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Free Dessert at Daily Grill

I always enjoy visiting Daily Grill, particularly for happy hour.  The food is great, the price is right, and the service is what you’d expect for a higher end, sit-down restaurant.  While dinner is a little bit more expensive, the entrée selections are great; I’m a big fan of their rib combos!  So how can something so good get even better?  FREE DESSERT!
