(It’s Always) Time to Grill!
I know some people think Spring and Summer are a sort of “grilling season”. For me, though, grilling is a year-round activity. Some of the best steaks I’ve ever made were fired up during an Iowa blizzard!
Fortunately, living in Los Angeles provides optimal grilling weather year round.
Making Gourmet Burgers at Home
There are so many great places in LA where you can get a gourmet burger made to order. Some of my favorites – The Counter, Houston’s, and numerous diners around the South Bay – are well worth the visit.
But these days, I’m finding it harder and harder to shell out $10 or more for a burger and fries at these places. I’m even thinking twice about the $5 #2 “animal style” at In-N-Out!
To get over my hamburger-centric economic angst, I decided to do gourmet burgers at home.
Buy Some Groceries; Support the Community
I know it seems like a chore or a burden to give back to the community or donate to charity or recycle cans and all of that shiny happy world stuff.
Well here’s an opportunity for you to do something to benefit others while doing something you do anyway…buying gorceries!
Pears and Apples in Hot Buttered Rum Sauce
My mom used to cook apples on the stove top all the time, usually as a side for a breakfast meal of ham, rice, and biscuits. It added the perfect sweetness to the meal…in addition to the jam or syrup we put on the biscuits! I came up with my own version of her recipe.
SB Foodies now featured on Foodbuzz and Foodie Blogroll
There’s nothing better than enjoying a meal or a dish and sharing the experience with someone else. That’s what compels most food bloggers to do what they do. Well, they are hungry too and that compels them to eat but its the joy of sharing that brings them to write about food, photograph food, and […]

Fondue Night For The Ladies
After visiting the new Melting Pot in Torrance on opening night, I was sold. Good food, great service, and a location that is just as much sexy as it is classy. Talking with the owner that night, I learned that the Pasadena location has a Girl’s Night Out special that comes around every now and […]
Forget 100 yd Kick Off Returns; How About A Free Grand Slam?
In case you missed the ad during the Super Bowl, Denny’s is giving away free Grand Slam meals (2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 pieces of sausage, and 2 pancakes) on Tuesday, February 3, from 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. It has the standard caveats: valid for dine-in only & at participating restaurants while supplies last. […]
Good Eats and a Free Bag from Fresh & Easy
I’m always excited when a new grocery store comes to town and Fresh & Easy was no exception. Their Manhattan Beach location opened last July and I’ve been a fan ever since.
The store is much smaller than your typical grocery store but has everything you’d need if you’re just running in to grab something or shopping for a week’s worth of meals.
South Bay Regroups for Restaurant Week 2009
dineLA’s Restaurant Week is (RW) already in full swing for 2009 and once again, several South Bay establishments step up to serve their best. Quoting dineLA’s website, “dineLA Restaurant Week is a two-week dining event established to introduce local foodies and visitors to the vast array of restaurants in neighborhoods throughout LA County”. Kogi BBQ + Doheny Club = One Wicked Night
A taco truck serving up Korean BBQ? YES! I’m rarely one to pass up a well made kalbi short rib. And I figured only in my dreams would there be a day when I could have them on a warm tortilla shell. My dreams came true last night.

Lady Bug Asian Grill in Gardena
Today for lunch I was hungry but my cravings were at opposite ends. I was starving so I wanted something heavy and beefy, like a burger or a steak. But it was hot too (80+ degrees in January!?) and I wanted something cool and light like a salad or sushi. Lady Bug Asian Grill came to my rescue!
Salt Creek Grille at Plaza El Segundo – Happy Hour
I’ve been to a couple happy hours at Salt Creek Grille and I’m always impressed. The venue is gorgeous. In the bar area, they have an approachable bar to the left as you walk in with waist high tables and bar stools to the right. Moving forward past that its like a living room; there […]
