Think Culver City is too far to drive? What about for free pizza, BBQ, chili, and Kobe beef corn dogs? Yeah, I thought you’d change your mind. Surfas Restaurant and Supply in Culver City has a great series of classes lined up for the coming months. With a focus on getting you ready for the […]
Butternut Squash Casserole
I’ve always been a fan of squash. My Mom, who can crank out a gourmet sqaush dish with next to no effort, inspires me to eat and cook them. Eat them? Yes. Cook them? No so much. When I do, I’m disappointed with the results of my attempts to cook squash compared to hers. But I will Keep trying.
This is a very simple recipe I came across earlier this fall (its winter now) and wanted to try. Here goes nothing!
“Holesome” Treats at Krispy Kreme in Gardena
Its the day after Christmas and the last thing I should be doing is eating a doughnut. This torture was brought on by my own design, though; I stuffed my daughter’s stocking with a gift certificate for a 12 pack from Krispy Kreme. My daughter Katia, AKA Lil Bit, can’t drive, so I knew it’d be up to me to facilitate the transaction. Funny how things worked out like that.
Manhattan Bread & Bagel: Easily my favorite bagel spot
It’s been a while since I had brunch on a weekday. I skipped breakfast and was craving something breakfast-y but it was around lunch time. I immediately thought of the delicious bagel creations over at Manhattan Bread & Bagel (MBB). Today the store was packed with customers, no doubt buying breads, pies, and cookies for […]
The Counter: Build your burger to order
Today I was fortunate to participate in a soft opening at The Counter, located in Plaza El Segundo. The staff there referred to the event as a “Practice Party”. Party indeed; All seats for this free — yes free! — event were by invitation and reservation only. Thankfully, Annalise had been on top of this […]
South Bay Foodies Editor gets recognition on Yelp!
I’ve always known that the South Bay Foodies were great people. Over the years, I’ve come to rely on their tips and suggestions for food, wine, services and more. Now I can be even more justified! Today, Margaret — an editor at South Bay Foodies — had one of her Yelp reviews recognized as “Review […]
The Melting Pot Comes To the South Bay
I came tonight for the grand opening and it was pretty busy! Set back from Hawthorne in a financial building (formerly the Comerica building), the restaurant is very nicely decorated with lots of booths for various sized groups and a row of intimate booths for parties of two. As a veteran of Melting Pot, I […]
This place only makes Good Stuff
For dinner tonight, Nicole and I decided to order carry out from Good Stuff, one of my favorite places in El Segundo. I wasn’t too hungry, having had a big lunch earlier in the day. I also had left overs at home from dinner the night before at Second City Bistro. So I called in […]
La Espanola Meats
I just got back from my first visit and I love it already! When my friend and I stepped in, I was reminded of my short trip (she stayed for 3 months, what a biatch) to Spain. Her Spanish host mom hooked up her fridge with all kinds of goodies from Super Sol and we […]
